WESTPORT — A 21-year-old driver, who allegedly ignored two red traffic lights on Post Road East, was charged with possessing and trying to sell narcotics after being taken into custody following a brief chase in a stolen car, police said.

Kevin Conley, of Bridgeport, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substances with intent to sell, first-degree larceny, reckless driving, disobeying an officer’s signal and driving a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license in connection with the incident.

Conley was spotted by an officer about 3:30 a.m. Dec. 15 blowing though a red traffic light at Post Road East and Cedar Road, and after turning around in a parking lot, ignoring another red traffic light at Church Street and Post Road East, according to the report.

He reportedly refused to pull over when signaled by the officer, continuing to drive west on Post Road East.

An alert was issued and an officer set “stop sticks” on the roadway at the intersection of Post Road West and Wilton Road.

Although Conley continued driving west after striking the stop sticks, his attempt to flee was hampered as the vehicle’s tires deflated.

As the vehicle slowed, officers were able to check its registration and determined it had been reported stolen in Trumbull, police said.

Conley, identified as the driver, and a passenger eventually fled from the disabled vehicle, police said, and Conley was quickly apprehended. The passenger succeeded in eluding officers.

As Conley was booked at Police Department headquarters, police discovered crack cocaine in his possession, according to the report. The cocaine “was packaged in a manner consistent with sale of the drug,” underscored by the amount of money Conley had, police said.

Conley was held on $12,500 bond and transported later that day for arraignment at state Superior Court in Stamford.
