WESTPORT — A 21-year-old town resident, whose Jeep flipped on its side in a single-vehicle crash last week, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Anthony Cochrane was driving on Sylvan Road South, at Sylvan Lane, about 1:10 a.m. Thursday when the accident occurred, police said. When officers arrived on the scene, the Jeep driven by Cochrane was resting on its side, according to the report, but he told officers he was not injured.

Officers said that when talking with Cochrane, an odor of alcohol was detected on his breath. He was administered a field sobriety test, which police said he failed, and he was placed under arrest.

Cochrane was brought to Westport police headquarters, where officers said he refused to take a Breathalyzer test. The two charges were subsequently filed against him.

He was released after posting a $400 bond and is scheduled to appear on the charges Aug. 16 at Stamford Superior Court.
