WESTPORT — A 21-year-old Stratford man has been charged by police in connection with stealing a car and a series of thefts from vehicles in the Compo section of town late last year.
Christopher Mulkern was taken into custody Wednesday by local police detectives and charged with five counts of third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary, first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny and four counts of sixth-degree larceny.
He was arraigned on the charges later that day in Stamford Superior Court, and held on $200,000 bond.
The charges stem from multiple complaints about thefts from vehicles in the Compo area last Nov. 30, as well as the report of a stolen car the previous month, police said. On Dec. 2, Mulkern and another man were arrested by Stratford police, and at that time, the suspects were found in possession of an item reportedly stolen from one of the local vehicles.
Investigators also said they were able to link Mulkern to the incidents after examining his cell phone, which they said revealed evidence of his role in the burglaries from vehicles, as well as video and photos that tied him to the car theft last Oct. 6.
