WESTPORT–Fairfield Police have arrested Daniel Suozzi, one of the founding members of the company that proposed the riverfront Hamlet project, on a warrant charging him with first-degree sexual assault. Suozzi turned himself in to the Fairfield Police on Thursday, Nov. 20.
Suozzi was released after posting $50,000 bail.
On Friday, Nov. 21, Suozzi’s lawyer, Mark Sherman, told Westport Journal, “This is an accusation based on an extremely brief encounter between two consenting adults. While it is premature to provide any more specifics on the case, Dan is absolutely innocent of this charge and we expect him to be fully vindicated during the court process.”
According to Ryan Mignone, Records Officer, Fairfield Police Department, the incident took place on May 25, 2025.
“The arrest was made on an active warrant following a month-long investigation by Fairfield police detectives into the reported sexual assault of a woman known to Suozzi,” Sgt. Jenna Wellington wrote in a statement.
Suozzi is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Tuesday.
Suozzi is no longer listed on the Roan Development Ventures website, but he was one of the founding partners of the company and he attended almost every Planning & Zoning Commission meeting about the proposed Hamlet riverfront development this year. The controversial project, one of the largest ever contemplated in Westport, was denied by the commission last summer.
Suozzi had been listed as one of the principals of Roan Ventures. A member of the executive team did not respond to a phone call from Westport Journal on Friday.
After the Hamlet project was denied by the Planning & Zoning Commission this summer, Roan sued to overturn the denial and proposed an alternate plan to create 400-500 residential units on the same Saugatuck River site under the state’s affordable housing law, 8-30g.
Suozzi was outspoken at P&Z meetings, saying even before the denial that Roan was looking into an affordable housing complex as an alternative to the large, upscale development.

Not a good look for ROAN..
The appearance of shady is not proof, yet — a narrative begins to be filled out as details emerge, people will talk. I wonder if he will be too busy in criminal court to go after the town of Westport.
