WESTPORT–A 30-year-old Norwalk man is due at several court appearances in February on a slew of charges, most recently that he fraudulently charged more than $1,000 at Home Depot stores on a Westport resident’s credit card.

A bail enforcement agent nabbed William Ayles on Dec. 24 and brought him to Westport Police Headquarters, where he was wanted on a warrant accusing him of making a series of unauthorized purchases at Home Depot locations in multiple states on Feb. 27 and 28, 2025.

“Based on receipts and notes associated with these purchases, the victim suspected that the party responsible was William Ayles, whom he had previously employed as a contractor,” a Westport police announcement said, adding, “Video surveillance of these transactions was obtained.”

More than $2,000 in transactions were attempted, but the total loss due to theft was $1,201.30, police said.

Ayles was charged with third-degree larceny, third-degree attempted larceny and illegal use of a credit card. Those are added to charges alleging crimes throughout 2025, including assault, larceny, trespassing and failure to appear in court on those charges.

Combined with his charges in other communities, Ayles’s bail was initially set at $240,000 when Ayles was brought for arraignment in Stamford on Dec. 24.

He is now being held on a total of $165,000 bond on charges he’ll face in Superior Courts in both Stamford and Bridgeport. He is scheduled to appear in the Bridgeport court on Feb. 4 on charges of fifth-degree larceny, second-degree criminal trespass, four counts of violating an order of protection, and three counts of failure to appear in court.

On Feb. 6, he faces a remote court appearance on two counts of violating an order of protection and failure to appear in court. He also is due in the Stamford court Feb. 20 on the latest charges from Westport, plus a February charge of violation of an order of protection, a third-degree assault charge from September, and failure to appear charges on both.
