SOUTHPORT — The changing shape of United States diplomacy over the nation’s lifetime will be the focus of an upcoming presentation at the Pequot Library.

“American Diplomacy at 250” will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15th and is being put on by the library and the World Affairs Council of Connecticut. The event will explore some of the most pivotal decisions made by American diplomatic leaders during U.S. history, the impact of U.S. diplomacy on world history, how the U.S. became a superpower, and where American diplomacy may be headed in the future.

The presentation will be given by Michael Brenes, the co-director of the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy and a lecturer at Yale University. Brenes is the author of several works on foreign policy, political history, and political economy, most recently The Rivalry Peril: How Great-Power Competition Threatens Peace and Weakens Democracy.
