WESTPORT — The driver of an SUV that careened off Interstate 95, near the Westport-Fairfield border, was hospitalized after being extricated from the wreck Tuesday evening.
Firefighters from both Westport and Fairfield were dispatched to the single-vehicle accident scene on I-95 southbound near Exit 19, according to a report on Westport Fire Department’s Facebook page.
The small SUV left the highway, trapping the driver inside.
Firefighters used hydraulic- and battery-operated tools to extricate the driver, who was then taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries, according to the report.
A State Police spokeswoman said Wednesday the injuries suffered by the driver were “minor.”
In addition to fire crews from both towns, Westport EMS and AMR ambulances were at the scene, as well as State Police troopers.
