
WESTPORT — One driver in a two-vehicle crash on Wilton Road at midday Wednesday had to be extricated from the wreck by firefighters before being rushed to the hospital.
The accident took place shortly after noon Wednesday, and shut down Wilton Road, between Partrick Road and River Lane, during emergency operations at the scene.

Police, firefighters and Westport EMS crews were all dispatched to the scene.
While one of the drivers involved in the accident was able to get out of his vehicle, the other driver was trapped inside by heavy damage, according to the report by Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Cohen.
Firefighters used hydraulic cutters to remove the door of the trapped driver’s vehicle.
After the driver was extricated, they were transported by Westport EMS to Norwalk Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report.
The accident remains under investigation by police.
