WESTPORT — Citing a “rapid drop” in the number of COVID-19 cases among Westport middle and high school students, Supt. of Schools Thomas Scarise says that live-streaming instruction for those in quarantine or isolation will end Friday.

Scarise, announcing the change Wednesday, said that pending any new COVID cases, there are expected to be no students in isolation or quarantine after Wednesday at Staples High and Coleytown Middle schools, and five in isolation and two in quarantine at Bedford Middle School.

Data from the school district’s COVID dashboard underscore the downward trend in infections, with 84 confirmed cases among both students and staff last week, dropping to 22 confirmed cases reported this week.

The decision to end instructional live-streaming comes after last week’s announcement of plans to ease other COVID-related restrictions throughout the school district.

“We will continue to peel back mitigating measures prudently based on our local experience and input from public health advisors,” Scarise said in Wednesday’s statement.
