WESTPORT — A wintry weekend nor’easter.
That’s the current forecast for Westport and southwestern Connecticut: A winter wallop now is wending its way up the East Coast, threatening a blast of heavy snow and blustery winds Friday and Saturday across the region.
According to the “Winter Storm Watch” posted by the National Weather Service, the day-long storm is expected to engulf the area Friday evening and continue through Saturday night.
The forecast as of early Thursday predicts snowfall may total from 6 to 12 inches, with wind gusts clocking up to 45 mph.
The weather service also says that minor to moderate coastal flooding is possible in local low-lying areas.
Frigid Fahrenheit readings will grip the region during the storm, with Saturday’s high temperature expected to rise to only about 20 degrees, according to the NWS.
