To the editor:
Man of the people … say that in Westport and one person comes to mind: Sal Liccione.
He is my Representative Town Meeting rep here in District 9 and I couldn’t be happier. District 9 includes downtown Westport, so he is also a champion of our small business community.
Sal is everywhere on any given day, including commission and board meetings, meeting with constituents by phone or face to face, and engaging his elected colleagues on issues that matter to his district citizens, whether that is Parker Harding Plaza or the Westport Community Gardens.
Vote for Sal on Nov. 7

Although I am not in his District, Sal Liccione has proved to be a faithful correspondent and a valuable source of information about what is going on in town government. He cares passionately about Westport and the RTM and deserves to be re-elected. Would that there were more like him.
Anyone acquainted with Sebastian (Sal) Liccione, RTM District #9 representative, knows of his commitment to his constituents and to the Town of Westport. Part foot soldier and part Town Crier, he famously patrols the greater downtown area at the heart of his district 24/7, 365 days a year, despite the weather. In fact, his constant concern about tidal and Deadman’s Brook flooding guarantees his attendance in the thick of every triggering storm event. No casual observer, he bails water, keeps tabs on sandbag availability and acts as a canary in the coal mine alerting public protection authorities of impending impacts on public safety.
He may not own a computer, but he communicates with scores of municipal & State officials with the same immediacy with which he tracks meeting notices, press releases, newspaper & blog pieces and postings of public events that he famously shares with a long list of community contacts. He never misses a meeting whether his attendance is required or necessitated by a subject relevant to his district or the Town as a whole.
Sal is a poster child for resilience and the resourcefulness that allows him to both serve the public and to thrive despite learning disabilities and a lack of basic transportation which the majority of us take for granted.
In the years of our friendship, I have observed, with the clarity of a close-up, his regular wounding by the unkindness and unfathomable cruelty of others in or with authority, legitimate or not. While such gut punches may leave him breathless and reeling with mystification over the undeserved often brutal rebukes from his peers, he perseveres.
Just as I am honored to know Sal Liccione as a loyal friend, an outstanding neighbor and genuinely engaged Town official, I know the voters in District #9 will be honored with his steadfast representation when they re-elect him to the RTM on Tuesday, November 7.
Sal gets it.
He represents
…..and he tells the truth.
Sal is a town treasure and I will say a dear friend.
Sal walks amongst us with no airs or graces, he listens to us and asks how we are. Have we any worries within the town and how can he help.
And if you express a worry about anything Sal will do his damndest to try and find a solution.
Sal volunteers his time, all the time, and with a smile on his face too.
Sal was the hamlet 1
Sal was not an rtm 29
If you vote for Sal, you will get his unwavering support and when you email him you won’t be ignored or dissed.
I cannot say the same for any of his current 3 rtm’ers.
They will hopefully be replaced by Suggs, Johnson, and Enslin.
After Sal voted against the changes which allowed the hamlet new zoning, yes he was the Lone Ranger. Yet represented the majority of town.
That very night within 15 minutes of his vote, he received a text from a man I won’t name but who should be ashamed of himself. I was deeply shocked.
Sal sent it to me. I kept it. And he kept it.
I told him it should be somehow on his campaign slogan.
It said this.
“YOU ARE DONE. WE ARE RUNNING PEOPLE AGAINST YOU IN THE NEXT ELECTION.”
this, because he stood up for the huge majority of his residents and quite frankly the rest of the town.
Sal never caves under pressure.
He is passionate and loyal to his constituents.
Vote for Sal if you want to try and have the voice you are entitled to.
Sal won’t send you disingenuous emails every month full of contradictions.
Sal will shake your hand in the street, he will remember your name and he will fight for your district.
Liccione, Suggs, Johnson, and Enslin.
That’s the team who will thoughtfully have your back.
