Following is the obituary for KEVIN MARTIN O’GRADY, submitted for his family by the Harding Funeral Home.

Kevin Martin O’Grady, a former probate judge of Westport and Weston, passed away peacefully July 25, 2023, at the Jewish Senior Services facility in Bridgeport after a long illness. The former Westport resident was surrounded by his brothers Terence and Martin, and his nephew Liam.

Kevin was born on Oct. 19, 1946, in New York City, and grew up in Manhattan and Westport, including summers at Westport’s Old Mill Beach. Kevin attended Assumption Grammar School in Westport and graduated from Fairfield Prep as a Merit Scholarship finalist. He then obtained his BA at Southampton College on Long Island, N.Y. After graduating, he spent four years traveling the world as an ordinary seaman in the Merchant Marines. He then continued his education, graduating cum laude from Boston University School of Law.

After graduating from law school, he shared a law office with Tony Slez in his hometown of Westport, where he practiced for many years. In 1999, Kevin was elected probate judge for Westport/Weston, serving for most of four terms until his retirement in 2013. 

He was a dear and beloved brother, son, father, step-father, husband, uncle and grandfather, who was treasured for his humor, warmth and answers on all questions about plants, cars, home improvement and the law.

Kevin leaves behind his son Sean (Heather) and their children Molly and Dylan O’Grady of Northford; son TJ (Jenny) and their children Max and Issac of Lutherville , Md.; brothers Terence (Jenny) of Sandy Hook and Martin (Julie) of Westport; nephews Terence (Tee) O’Grady (Nancy) of Sandy Hook, John O’Grady (Christine) of Sandy Hook and Robert O’Grady (Natalia) of Vero Beach Fla.; niece Katherine Stromsky (Joseph) of Sandy Hook; niece Tara O’Grady of Jensen Beach, Fla.; nephew Liam O’Grady of Westport; first wife Maureen; ex-wife Helen Fischer; step-daughters Alison (Tobin), Nina (Liz) and Lauren (Katie) Lebwohl; grandchildren Levi, Josie, Theo and George of Madison, Wisc., as well as many great- and great-great nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents Terence and Elizabeth (Brennan) O’Grady of Westport; sister-in-law Jennifer (Skemp) O’Grady of Sandy Hook; cousin Mary Agatha (O’Grady) and her husband Patrick Savage of Toronto Canada, and Father Martin O’Grady of Kinvara, Ireland.

Kevin was cremated and will be buried along with other family at Assumption Cemetery in Westport. Friends and family may call at the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, on Thursday, Aug. 3, from 4 until 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at Assumption Church on Friday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m., and a graveside service at 11:15 a.m. The family requests that donations be made in his name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
