Kathleen Marie (Smith) Weiss, 84, of Westport, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 24, 2026, with family at her side. 

Kathleen was born to Leo J. and Philomena M. Smith on November 7, 1941, in Camden, New Jersey. She was raised in Westmont, New Jersey with her dear brothers and sisters. She graduated from Saint Mary of the Angels Academy and went on to nursing school at Saint Francis Medical Center in Trenton. She moved to Westport in 1975 and worked as a nurse at Norwalk Hospital, the Westport public school system, and for several home healthcare companies. She returned to school to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Sacred Heart University. She later taught home healthcare at Western Connecticut State University, retiring only recently. 

Kathleen was deeply faithful and loved God. She was a devout parishioner at Saint Luke’s Church for fifty-one years. She taught catechism, was a lector, assisted with charitable efforts, and attended mass without fail until she was physically unable. Her faith comforted her through challenges and losses. She was unbowed. It was a joy and an inspiration to hear her pray and sing for decades from the third row, left, at St. Luke’s. 

Kathleen fell in love while dancing with Timothy Weiss, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. They married on June 5, 1965. He lovingly called her “Smitty”. They enjoyed a wonderful life together in Westport. The dancing continued with dear friends at the Fairfield County Cotillion Club, the Gaelic American Club, and wherever else the spirit moved. Theirs was a comforting and welcoming home for friends, old and new. Kathleen and Tim traveled widely and especially enjoyed their time in Ireland and Italy. Stories from those trips became legend and enlivened many nights for years afterward. 

Kathleen is survived by her husband Timothy, and by her son Timothy Jr. and his wife Laura Barron-Weiss, her son David Weiss and Tracy Karlbergs, and her son Matthew Weiss. Kathleen is also survived by her sister Ann and brother-in-law Thomas Weiss, her brother Joseph and sister-in-law Virginia Smith, and her brother Leo and sister-in-law Kathleen Smith. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary Woodrum and Susan Ingersoll. Kathleen also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Adele, Watson, and Kathryn, step-grandchildren Thomas Barron and Gabrielle Barron, and her cherished nieces and nephews living and deceased. 

Kathleen was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. We are grateful for her life with us, and we hope and trust that she now rests in God’s infinite and loving embrace. 

A funeral mass for Kathleen will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 2, at St. Luke’s Church, Westport. Burial will be private.
