Following is the obituary for HOWARD S. MAYNARD, submitted by the family.
. . .
Howard Story Maynard, whose family left Massachusetts for the California Gold Rush, died Feb. 20 in Westport. He lived here for 62 years.
Howard was in Korea for almost two years, then graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. He worked for Westinghouse in Bridgeport, and then for 30 years, he worked for Exxon in New York in computer applications. He spent four years in London, where he developed an email system within the company.
After retiring from Exxon, he applied his knowledge and skills to Young & Rubicam in New York.
He lived a long and peaceful life; he was spare with his words and logical with his thinking. He fervently expressed gratitude for all he was given and obtained during his life — proud of his career and his post-retirement volunteer work for Westport.
He served on many boards — Human Services, the Westport-Weston Health Department and the Westport Library, among others. He was proud of being on the board when the library was renovated and assumed a stronger position in the town.
What really mattered to Howard, however, was his family, especially Mary, his wife of 65 years. He and Mary made the most of their time together, traveling often and widely.
Howard was a skilled craftsman in his wood shop and darkroom. He loved chamber music and cars.
Along with Mary, he leaves behind three children, Douglass Maynard, Mallory McGrath, Allison deVaux and seven grandchildren.
He was a fine man.
No services are planned because he has donated his body to Yale Medical School. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation to the Regional Hospice in Danbury.

I married Howard’s niece, Nancy, in 1985. Howard & Nancy were there. We named our second child after their daughter Allison, who just visited in CA resently. We got a photo of Allison & Allison with Cousin Libby & Lizabeth ( our first daughter named after Libby) with their Mother & first cousin Nancy. Great family memories. Howard and Nancy ( who my girls mother was named after) were always great to be with when they visited. They told stories about when my wife Nancy visited in London and ran all around with their girls. Howard was the last Maynard Brother of 4 to pass. Proceeded by B.B., Bob, John. Now the only Maynard men left are Howard’s son Douglas and B.B’s son John. Howard lead a long and fruitful life and was most generous with his time and money. May He Rest in Peace & may Mary enjoy a long life with all those grandchildren. With Love. Frank Schultz III – CA Relative…
