WESTPORT — The second half of the Interstate 95 bridge replacement over Saugatuck Avenue begins Friday night.
Two weekends ago, all traffic of I-95 was squeezed down to two lanes each direction over the southbound half of the bridge while the northbound span was demolished and replaced.
That work was completed 14 hours ahead of schedule, but the traffic effects were experienced far and wide in the region.
The second half of the bridge replacement is scheduled this weekend and motorists are advised to plan accordingly.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday and running perhaps until 6 a.m. Monday, all traffic on I-95 will be squeezed onto the northbound half of the span while the southbound span is demolished, and its replacement slid into place.
The work is part of the DOT’s $104 million I-95 Norwalk Westport Project. It extends from Norwalk to the Saugatuck River Bridge in Westport.
