WESTPORT — Local public transportation officials plan to visit the Saugatuck Railroad Station this week to gather input from commuters about the Wheels2U Westport shuttle service.
Peter Gold, director of the Westport Transit District and a Representative Town Meeting member, will be at the rail depot to meet commuters from 6 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 23.
Gold will be joined by representatives of the Norwalk Transit District, which operates the Wheels2U shuttle service, and Via, the company that provides the Wheels2U app and software.
Gold wants commuters “to let us know what’s right with Wheels2U, what’s not working and what we can do better,” according to a statement about the event.
“We also want to talk to commuters who don’t take Wheels2U to make them aware of the service,” he added. “If commuters aren’t using Wheels2U we want to find out if they have some need we aren’t meeting so we can perhaps address it.”
The group will gather to hear from commuters on the sidewalk next to the elevator on the New York-bound side of the station platform, corner of Franklin Street and Railroad Place. In case of inclement weather, they will be in the station house.
Residents living in the Wheels2U Westport service area can use its ride-sharing app to book a ride between 5:45 and 10 a.m. from their homes to either the Saugatuck or Greens Farms railroad stations, and from 4 and 9:30 p.m. to schedule rides from either station back home.
