WESTPORT — No dogs allowed. No fooling, even though the seasonal policy banning canines — and other animals — from the town’s beaches takes effect on April Fools Day.
Dogs, allowed to accompany owners to the waterfront since last October, are not permitted as of Friday, April 1, at Compo, Old Mill or Burying Hill beaches.
The prohibition on dogs — in or out of vehicles — remains in effect at the beaches until Oct. 1, according a Parks and Recreation Department announcement.
Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Fava also reminds residents that animals, “for the safety and well-being of our athletic field users,” are not allowed on any of the town’s athletic fields or playgrounds at any time of the year.
Dogs are allowed, year-round, at Winslow Park, corner of Post Road East and Compo Road North. The park has designated on- and off-leash areas.
A detailed list of policies pertaining to animals on public lands in Westport can be found on the town’s website.
