WESTPORT — Sunny, brisk late-summer days are in the forecast today and most of the Labor Day weekend as Tropical Storm Ida’s wet and wild onslaught drops off the radar.
That bright holiday outlook prevails unless you’re one of 33 Westport customers of Eversource, who as of 5 a.m. Friday still had no power in the aftermath of the storm. They represent 0.26 percent of the 12,668 total customers in town, according the power company’s data.
That’s also unless you’re a commuter planning to catch your usual train on Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven line, where full weekday service on Friday has yet to be restored.
Instead, the railroad will operate an “enhanced weekend schedule” on Friday.
On the brighter side, Amtrak expects to resume its regular schedule.
That’s also unless you are a patron or official of Westport Country Playhouse, where Ida performed serious damage to several parts of the theater.
To help the show go on, playhouse officials are seeking donations to cover repair and cleanup costs. Click here to make a donation.
Finally, that’s also unless you live in a low-lying or waterside area, in which case the National Weather Service warns that high water levels left in Ida’s wake mean you should heed its current “flood advisory” for Westport through noon Friday.
Meanwhile, better news is found in the rest of the NWS forecast for the holiday weekend. Skies are predicted to be mostly sunny through Monday, with temperatures in the 70s.
