WESTPORT — A vacancy in District 2 of the Representative Town Meeting has been created by the resignation of Christine Meiers Schatz.
Town officials have issued a call to registered voters in District 2 interested in filling the vacancy to submit their names for consideration. The term on the legislative body runs through Nov. 28, 2023, and political affiliation of those seeking appointment is not a factor, since the RTM is a non-partisan body.
RTM Moderator Jeffrey Wieser mentioned the resignation at the Sept. 6 meeting.
“We heard today that Christine Meiers Schatz has resigned for busy, busy, young-family reasons, all good,” he said.
“She has resigned so the three members of District 2 will be starting to look for someone to replace her,” Wieser said. “Hopefully by the October meeting, so if anyone is listening out there from District 2 and is interested in applying … please feel free to do so.”
Applicants should send a resume by Sept. 23 to Town Clerk Jeffrey Dunkerton at JDunkerton@westportct.gov.
The three other District 2 RTM members will vote to appoint an interim member from among the candidates at a meeting set for 7 p.m. Sept. 29 in Town Hall’s Room 201.
