WESTPORT — The Super Blue Moon, looming large in Westport skies the last three nights, also had a super strong effect on local tides — as shown in these photographs of Tuesday night’s dramatically lower low tide taken by John Marchak.
Because a “super” moon passes closer to Earth than usual in its elliptical orbit, it not only appears larger than the standard full-moon phase, the lunar gravitational pull on both high and low tides — as shown here — is super powerful.
