WESTPORT — A holiday tradition that keeps on singing — the Candlelight Concert at Staples High School — is slated for an 84th year of performances Dec. 13 and 14.

The annual event, showcasing Staples’ nationally recognized musicians and vocalists, will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, and at 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the high school’s auditorium, 70 North Ave.

Candlelight Concert tickets go on sale starting at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, and can be reserved by clicking here. There is a four-ticket maximum per order for tickets, which are available at no cost, although donations to support Staples music programs are appreciated.

This year’s concert repertoire will feature “inspiring selections and familiar favorites,” according to publicity for the performances.

Under direction of Kevin Mazzarella, Staples new band director, the program will open with Susato’s “La Morisque,” followed by the traditional processional to “Sing We Noel,” the “March of the Toys” from Victor Herbert’s “Babes in Toyland,” the Liberian folk song “African Noel,” Biebl’s “Ave Maria” and Barnett’s arrangement of the Ashkenazic folk song “S’Vivon.”

Finales will include Alan Silvestri’s “The Polar Express” and George Frideric Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus,” with the audience invited to join the performers in a shared salute to the season.

The Staples Tri-M Music Honor Society will be collecting canned foods for “CanDelight” Dec. 9-14, a campaign benefiting local nonprofit Homes with Hope’s food pantry. Collection bins will be in the Staples lobby prior to each concert performance for audience donations.
