WESTPORT — “Yankee Doodle” once again comes to town June 13-16, and the traditional springtime fest will be brimming with carnival rides, games, food, raffles and fun, courtesy of the Westport Woman’s Club.
The fair, staged on the club grounds at 44 Imperial Ave., will take place at 6-10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 13-14; 1-10 p.m. Saturday, June 15, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, June 16.
Proceeds from the Yankee Doodle Fair support Westport Woman’s Club charities, including need-based scholarships for Staples High School students and a food-assistance program organized with the town’s Department of Human Services.
A major Yankee Doodle attraction remains the carnival rides provided by Stewart Amusements, which this year will include a carousel, Flying Dumbo, Dizzy Dragon, Frog Hopper, Scrambler, Cliff Hanger, Zero Gravity and Expo Wheel. Unlimited ride wristbands can be purchased every day of the fair.
In addition to games, there will be raffles and a “Take a Chance” tent, where tickets can be bought for a chance at winning prizes provided by local merchants and restaurants. Winning raffle and Take a Chance tickets will be drawn at the end of the fair Sunday; winners do not have to be present to claim their prizes.
Children’s activities will include sand art and a new offering, “snowflake painting.”
A wide selection of food also will be on offer, including traditional fare like hamburgers and hot dogs served by the Westport Exchange Club, as well as beer and wine; gyros, souvlaki and shish kabobs from Grecian Delights; Skip’s vintage Good Humor truck, and baked goods and cold beverages sold by Westport Woman’s Club members.
No dogs, except service animals, are allowed on the fair grounds, according to event organizers.
