Westport runners can take pride in their stride in the Pequot Runners’ big Thanksgiving Day race, which Thursday returned to a five-mile course through Westport and Southport.
With a field estimated at 4,000 runners for the Thanksgiving event’s 44th outing, four of the top-10 finishers were from Westport — more than any other town, according to results posted on the Pequot Runners’ website.
The top Westport runner was 15-year-old Byron Grevious, who finished fifth overall, with a time of 24:58 minutes — a mere 49 seconds behind the race winner, James Maniscalco, 21, of Fairfield, who clocked the best time of 24:09 minutes for the five miles.
Westporter Oliver Hickson, 24, was right behind Grevious in sixth place overall, with a time of 25:21 minutes, while Teddy O’Kane, 19, and Luke Lorenz, 20, also Westport runners, finished ninth and tenth, respectively, with times of 25:43 and 25:58 minutes.
Four more runners from Westport placed among the top 25 finishers: Zach Taubman, 17, was 13th at 26:37 minutes; Robert Brink, 36, was 16th at 26:56; Daniel Landy, 24, was 18th, at 27:07, and Tim Collins, 47, was 24th, at 27:33.
