WESTPORT — Another chapter of a popular Westport Library tradition begins Oct. 8 with its Fall Book Sale.

The event, featuring a wide range of “gently used” books in more than 40 categories, will take place:

  • 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8.
  • 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9.
  • Noon -5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, when everything will be on sale half-price.
  • Plus, early admission to the event is planned at 8 a.m. Oct. 8, for those who want advance access to peruse the offerings. Admission for “early birds” is only via $15 tickets, which can be purchased online here as of Friday, Sept. 24.
  • And Monday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m.-noon, shoppers can fill the library’s logo bags for $5 per bag, or buy individual books at half-price.

There is no admission fee, with the exception of early-bird access Oct. 8. The sale is set for the main level of the library, 20 Jesup Road.

In addition to the vast selection of books, also on offer will be a range of DVDs, CDs and vinyl records.

Organizers of the sale highlight several categories that may be of “special interest” to book lovers:

  • An expanded selection of books and sheet music, including music from Broadway shows; books about George Gershwin and Cole Porter; adult and youth choir music, and method books for students of piano, strings, woodwind and brass.
  • Recent donation of a large collection of military history, in addition to a broad selection of books exploring American and world history and politics.
  • Fans of author and former long-time local resident Erica Jong will find books donated from her personal library, including author-signed presentation copies to Jong, many of which are also signed by Jong, as well as books she wrote and signed.
  • A foreign language selection, including new books in Nordic languages.
  • Noteworthy and antiquarian books, for which a catalog of a representative sampling will be published on the book sale’s website prior to the sale.

The book sale will comply with all current COVID health and safety protocols. Everyone 2 years old and over entering the library is required to wear a face mask. Hand sanitizer will be available at the library entrance and other stations around the sales floor.

Capacity will be monitored in conformity with COVID social-distancing guidance and fire marshal regulations.

  • For those unable to shop in person at the sale, books are also available at the Westport Book Shop, 23 Jesup Road, across Jesup Green from the library, or any time at the library’s online store here.
