WESTPORT–The Westport Book Shop is highlighting the local artist John Bygott for the month of June at the Book Shop’s Drew Friedman Art Place. Bygott is exhibiting a selection of his oil paintings of  seascapes.

“In my work I strive to share with the viewer a snapshot of my inspiration. I have  always been fascinated by the horizon, the relationship between the vast expanse of  sky above and the great earth we inhabit below,” Bygott said.

Bygott is originally from Fairfield CT, and has lived in New York City, Provincetown,  Massachusetts, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. For 25 years, his career was interior  design, but he has also worked in or managed art galleries for over thirty years,  including, during the 1980s, serving as director of his own art gallery in Westport,  representing regional New England artists.

John is a graduate of Paier College of Art in New Haven, CT, having studied fine  art, advertising, graphic design and interior design. Other studies have included silk  screening at the Creative Arts Workshop, New Haven, CT, studio painting at The  Silvermine School, and studio life classes at the Cape Cod Conservatory of Art and  Music. His artwork has been represented in galleries in Connecticut, Rhode Island,  New Mexico and Florida. John has been painting professionally for close to 20 years.

His work will be on exhibit at the Westport Book Shop through June 30.

The Westport Book Shop will hold a reception for this exhibit on Wednesday evening, June 17, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Space is limited;  please RSVP to the Book Shop by phoning 203-349-5141 or by sending an email to  RSVP@westportbooksaleventures.org.
