WESTPORT — For the second time in less than a week, a springtime storm of “hazardous” strength — threatening downpours, wind blasts and coastal flooding — is forecast later Monday and early Tuesday.
The “Hazardous Weather Outlook” issued Monday for Westport and southwestern Connecticut by the National Weather Service includes a “Wind Advisory” from 8 p.m. Monday till 6 a.m. Tuesday and a “Coastal Flood Warning” in effect from midnight to 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Even though skies will be relatively sunny through Monday afternoon, as temperatures rise to the low 50s, the NWS warns that tonight’s weather could take a sharp turn for the worse.
Rain is forecast to starting falling about 11 p.m. Monday, turning heavy at times, with winds gusting up to as high as 50 mph, according to the NWS.
Together, heavy rain and strong winds by early Tuesday could trigger “minor to moderate flooding. The most significant flooding is expected to be along the western portion of Long Island Sound,” the weather service says.
More rain is probable Tuesday morning, tapering off by early afternoon as skies clear and temperatures rise to a high in the low 50s.
The weather service predicts the rest of the week for southwestern Connecticut will return to more traditional spring weather.
Wednesday should be sunny with a high temperature approaching 60 degrees.
Thursday is expected to be partly sunny, the NWS says, with a high temperature again near 60.
And Friday should have sunny conditions with the temperature cresting at nearly 70 degrees.
