SOUTHPORT — The Pequot Library is promising that its latest summer book sale will be its biggest one yet, with the celebrated event returning for its 65th year this weekend.

The Summer Book Sale will run from Friday, July 24th through Tuesday, July 28th. Visitors can peruse more than 100,000 items across 30 categories, with items organized under tents on the Great Lawn, in the parking lot, and in the library’s auditorium and reading room.

Some items available at the sale include fiction, history, biography, and reference books along with CDs, DVDs, and LPs. The library will also showcase more than 500 “special” collectible items, such as a first edition copy of Randall Jarrell’s The Bat-Poet, an 1881 first edition set of the 12-volume pocket-sized Shakespeare – The Handy Volume, and a first printing of Ernest Hemingway’s To Have and Have Not.

All proceeds from the sale support the Pequot Library’s programs, services, and exhibitions. With support from the Renée B. Fisher Foundation, the library will also provide $100 vouchers to more than 300 public school teachers from Ansonia, Bridgeport, Derby, New Haven, Norwalk, and Stratford.

Trinity Episcopal Church will once again be hosting its “Park for Food” drive, allowing visitors to park in the church’s parking lot in exchange for canned food or monetary donations.
