WESTPORT — As snowfall totaling between six to eight inches tapered off late Friday morning, cleanup got underway from the first major winter storm of the year.
Snowfall totals ranging from a high of nearly nine inches to about four and a half inches were reported from around Fairfield County to the National Weather Service.
Most reports in the Westport area indicated roughly eight inches of snow blanketed the town.
Westport roads were quiet earlier in the morning as most people appeared to heed officials’ warnings about hazardous road conditions caused by the storm. Snow started falling overnight and was heaviest during early-morning hours.
Skies for the rest of Friday are forecast to be partly cloudy with temperatures rising to a high in the mid-30s.
Saturday, according to the NWS, will be mostly sunny with high temperatures again in the mid-30s.
On Sunday, however, there is a slight chance of snow showers in the morning, then mixing with rain and turning to all rain by late morning. Temperatures are expected to peak at nearly 40 degrees.
