Routes for the 45th annual “Minute Man Races” on Sunday in the Compo Beach area.

WESTPORT — The 45th “Minute Man Races,” sponsored by the Westport Young Woman’s League, hit the streets Sunday in the Compo Beach area.

Race warm-ups are set to get underway at the beach about 8 a.m. Sunday, April 28, with activities expected to last until about 11 o’clock.

Police have issued a Sunday morning traffic alert since roads will remain open to motorists for the event’s duration. Because approximately 1,300 participants are expected to be on the race courses, which start at Compo Beach and follow area roads, drivers should exercise caution, police warn.

The Minute Man Races comprise several running competitions, including a USA Track and Field-certified 10K run, a 5K run and 5K Walk. For children, there will be a 50-yard dash, 100-yard dash, half-mile run and 1-mile run, as well as other “Kids Zone” activities.
