WESTPORT–First Selectman Kevin Christie has announced the launch of the Town of Westport’s Affordable Housing Committee Information Hub, a dedicated online resource designed to inform, educate, and engage residents about affordable housing in the community.

The new hub serves as a source of data, frequently asked questions, and community guidance related to affordable housing in Westport. Residents can easily access details about the Committee’s mission, the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Ordinance, the Town’s Affordable Housing Plan, and completed housing developments that include affordable housing units.

The Affordable Housing Committee was established in September 2024 as part of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Ordinance. The ordinance established the Affordable Housing Trust Fund and charged the committee with:

  • Studying the need for affordable housing within the Town.
  • Making an inventory of sites within the Town which may be suitable for affordable housing.
  • Tracking the availability of such sites.
  • Studying sources of funding for affordable housing.

A press release announcing the information hub says that one of the highlights of the site is its Frequently Asked Questions section. FAQs addressed are

  • “What is Affordable Housing?”
  • “Why does Westport need Affordable Housing?”, and
  • “What is 8-30(g)?”

First Selectman Christie: “Affordability is a challenge across Connecticut, and it is one we are seeing more clearly here in Westport for our workforce, seniors, and young families. Housing is at the center of that challenge. If we want to shape our future, we need to engage early, work from shared facts, and plan thoughtfully. This is a step in that direction, giving residents a clear place to understand the issue and how we can approach it in a way that reflects Westport’s values.”
