WESTPORT — As downtown transforms into an outdoor arts showcase for the 50th Westport Fine Arts Festival this weekend, streets will be closed for the event’s duration.

The festival, with exhibits of artwork in a wide range of media, will take place along Main and Elm streets from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 27, and Sunday, May 28. The event is sponsored by the Westport Downtown Association.

The accommodate setting up the displays and taking them down, police have announced that Main Street, between Post Road East and Avery Place, and Elm Street, between Main Street and Bedford Square, will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. Friday, May 26, through 10 p.m. Sunday, May 28.

Police advise the street closures also will cause traffic congestion elsewhere downtown, and that drivers should use caution because of the larger-than-usual number of pedestrians in the area.
