The Compo Beach playground, originally built 35 years ago, has been remodeled once before. But now, nearly 20 years since the last renovation, it will be remodeled and rebuilt to comply with current safety and accessibility standards.

WESTPORT — Plans to renovate the Compo Beach playground are in play, and the committee working on the project will unveil its suggested redesign at a March 27 meeting.

The presentation, to be made at a special meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission, will take place online via Zoom at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27. For details about accessing the meeting, click here.

The beachside playground, originally built more than three decades ago, was remodeled in 2006 and again needs to be refurbished, according to officials.

The Compo Playground Organizing Committee has for several months been working on renovation plans, which are being supported by the Westport Rotary Club as a community-service project to help mark its 100th anniversary.

The committee held an open house on the project in January to update the public on the plans and to gather feedback.

Tentative plans — if approved by town officials — call for renovations to be carried out over several days in September, primarily by volunteers from the Rotary Club, the Westport Young Woman’s League and other community organizations.
