WESTPORT — Help an annual event “push” fundraising for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp over $1 million on Oct. 16.
“Push Against Cancer” — a push-up marathon — is set for 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Staples High School, 70 North Ave.
Registration is $40 person, with entrants asked to recruit a minimum donation totaling $100. The registration and more information is available by clicking here. Sign-ups on the day of the event start at 8 a.m.
Participants compete in a push-up contest, many “to hit a personal goal or honor a loved one,” according to event publicity.
The fundraiser, first staged in 2009, benefits the Hole in the Wall Camp in the upstate town of Ashford.
The camp was founded in 1988 by longtime Westport resident Paul Newman as a reprieve for sick children. It has evolved into a variety of programs offered at the camp, as well as hospitals and clinics, serving more than 20,000 children annually across the Northeast, according to the organization’s website.
Total funding raised over the years by Push Against Cancer is expected to surpass $1 million at the Oct. 16 event, event planners say.
“Push Against Cancer has become a fundraising phenomenon that shows you the difference a community can make when it is united by passion and purpose,” Jimmy Canton, the Hole in the Wall CEO, said in a publicity release for the event.
