WESTPORT — Two community programs on alcohol and drug abuse are planned next week next week in conjunction with “National Public Health Week.”

The programs, designed to give the public greater awareness of the issues, are co-sponsored by the Aspetuck Health District, Westport Prevention Coalition and Positive Directions. They are: 

“Exploring Westport’s Relationship with Alcohol,” via Zoom, at 7 p.m. Monday, April 7: Panelists will discuss experiences from the perspectives of a parent, person in recovery, mental health counselor, substance counselor, LGBTQ community member and teen. “Save a Life Day,” training to respond to drug overdose, 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, Town Hall Room 201, 110 Myrtle Ave.: Information will be distributed about the evolution of the overdose crisis; how to recognize an opioid overdose, and how to use Naloxone. Also known as Narcan, the drug can be used to save the life of a drug overdose victim. Training is open to the public, and Naloxone kits will be provided to participants over 18 years old.
