WESTPORT — Road closures are mounting as wind velocity ramps up while a nor’easter that blew into town early Tuesday continues to wreak havoc this evening.

Among the streets closed late this afternoon by flooding and obstacles blocking traffic are:

  • Greens Farms Road at Center Street
  • Cross Highway between Roseville and Hockanum roads
  • Myrtle Avenue at Post Road East
  • Greens Farms Road at the Fairfield town line
  • Tiffany Lane

Police warn that since the forecast calls for strong winds overnight — so far, gusts have been clocked as high as 40 to 50 mph — as well as periodic downpours, drivers should expect additional road closures.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has extended its flash flood watch for Westport until 10 p.m. tonight, and a wind advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. today until 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Power outages, however, have declined throughout the day, from about 150 this morning to 13 as of 5:30 p.m., according to Eversource.

As reported earlier, all Westport schools’ after-school programs today are either canceled or postponed.
