WESTPORT — Before Wordle, before Words with Friends, there was Scrabble.

And before that, there was a wordplay game that inspired them all: the crossword puzzle.

A celebration of crossword challenges returns to the Westport Library next February for a 24th year.

The library’s “Crossword Puzzle Contest,” which again will be hosted by Will Shortz, the crossword puzzle editor for The New York Times, is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, in the library.

Tickets, which traditionally sell out quickly, go on sale Thursday, Dec 1. Cost is $30 per ticket, and they can be reserved by clicking here.

Participants in the tourney will be challenged to solve three puzzles within a set timeframe, for the right to compete in the final round.
