
FAIRFIELD — Residents will have several chances to get some exercise and learn about local history, with the Fairfield Museum and History Center offering several walking tours during the spring and summer.
The first tour will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 11th, and focus on Fairfield’s historic taverns. This event will explore the taverns operated by local residents Samuel Penfield, Jonathan Bulkley, and Stephen Hull, as well as the role of taverns in developing revolutionary ideas.
A tour of the Town Hall Green will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 9th. This event will discuss historical events that took place at the site, with information on pre-colonial Native American villages, the 1639 town center, witchcraft trials, Revolutionary War battles, and John Hancock’s marriage to Dorothy Quincy at the Burr Homestead.
The museum will also offer a tour of the Old Burying Ground at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20th. This tour will tell the stories of several Revolutionary War figures from Fairfield whose final resting place is in the cemetery.
All tours are $15 for members of the Fairfield Museum and History Center and $20 for non-members. For more information, visit fairfieldhistory.org.
