WESTPORT–The Parks and Recreation Department announced today that lifeguards will be on duty at Burying Hill Beach only through Sunday, August 17.
High school kids begin “athletics next week for preseason and the college students started to leave last week,” said Carmen Roda, DPW Operations Manager.
Fortunately, Westport swimmers have options; the town will focus all its lifeguard resources at Compo Beach, where lifeguards will be on their regular schedule through September 1.
This happens every year, according to Roda. Westporters are lucky, as “neighboring communities suffer with a lack of lifeguards all season long,” Roda said.
Burying Hill each will remain open – swimmers are advised to use caution and swim at their own risk.
Lifeguard hours are daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
