WESTPORT — Wicked weather over the last two days, with more in the weekend forecast, has forced postponement of two Halloween events.

  • The annual Children’s Halloween Parade through downtown, initially scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, has been postponed a day to Thursday because of lingering impact of a two-day nor-easter.
  • A community Halloween gathering planned Saturday at the Westport Country Playhouse will now take place Sunday.

Kids treated to downtown Halloween march Thursday

The downtown parade is now scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, but otherwise will follow the initially announced format.

The event is particularly geared for little tricksters — children about 8 years old and younger, according to organizers. It is sponsored by the town’s Parks and Recreation Department, the Downtown Association and Westport P.A.L.

Children, with parents or guardians, should gather at the parade’s starting point, the corner of Main Street and Post Road East.

The parade will proceed up Main Street, turn right onto Avery Place and then turn left on Myrtle Avenue to Town Hall and Veterans Green.

Youngsters are invited to trick-or-treat along Main Street and outside Town Hall.

At 4 p.m. on Veterans Green, there will be refreshments, entertainment and small gifts for Halloween celebrants.

No parking will be allowed on Main Street from 2 to 4 p.m. to accommodate the parade.

Halloween fun for families at the playhouse Sunday

A Halloween-themed “Family Fun Day,” originally planned Saturday at the Westport Country Playhouse, has been rescheduled to 11 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, on the theater grounds, 25 Powers Court, because of more inclement weather in the forecast.

The free outdoor event will feature activities for children, including a costume parade for youngsters and their pets, as well as story hours, as food trucks, beer tastings and a community food drive.

Children are encouraged to wear costumes and bring their own pumpkins for decorating, event organizers say. Other activities will include a scavenger hunt, making an origami ghost and weaving a spider web.

In addition, the playhouse box office will be open from noon to 2 p.m. for 25 percent discounts on in-person tickets for performances of “Doubt: A Parable,” starting Nov. 2. There also will be discounts available for 2022 Flex Passes.
