WESTPORT–The Southwestern Connecticut Chapter of the United Nations Association gathered yesterday in Westport for speeches and an array of activities across town. Under gray skies on a warm summer day, more than 250 people celebrated the annual observance of “jUNe Day.”

Several speakers spoke about the United Nations and its peace-oriented mission. Hass greeted the crowd and introduced First Selectwoman Jenn Tooker. Aye Aye Thant, former Westport resident and daughter of the third Secretary-General of the United Nations, U Thant, read a message from Antonio Guterres, the current Secretary General of the United Nations.
Michaela MacColl, jUNe Day Chairperson, closed the session.
Attendees then spent the rest of the day taking advantage of many of Westport’s amenities: tennis and golf at Longshore, visits to Earthplace and Wakeman Town Farm and shopping downtown.
Bill Hass, president of the chapter, said, “Yesterday’s 60th annual jUNe Day was one of our most successful and positive events yet. Members of the United Nations community from New York City and the entire Tri-State area participated.”
