WESTPORT — A car was struck by a large tree that toppled across Easton Road, near North Avenue, on Monday morning.
A black sedan was hit by branches of the tree as it fell, and swerved off the roadway into a stone wall, police said. No serious injuries were reported. The vehicle does not appear to have been severely damaged in photos posted on the Fire Department’s Facebook page.
The incident apparently took place shortly before 9 a.m., according to an emergency-services alert. Easton Road, near the North Avenue intersection, will be closed to traffic indefinitely.
The tree also apparently tore down utility lines, disrupting power service to area customers. As of 9:45 a.m. Monday, Eversource was reporting 52 outages in Westport.
