WESTPORT — Soup’s on!
The “Great Westport Soup Contest,” asking diners to choose the best soups ladled by16 local restaurants and food outlets, is planned for March by the Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce.

The month-long soup sweepstakes — a continuation of a contest cut short by the COVID pandemic in 2020 — follows the culinary tradition of earlier competitions organized by the chamber to select Westport’s favorite pizza, burgers, sandwiches and salads.
Diners will be able to cast ballots online throughout March to choose the best soups in seven categories at 16 local soup sellers, including: chicken, beef vegetable, Asian, onion, matzoh ball and chowder.
The 16 participants are: Basso, Calise’s Food Market, Capuli, Gaetano’s, Garelick and Herbs, Gold’s Deli, Joe’s Pizza, Kawa Ni, Little Pub@Dunville’s, Old Mill Grocery, Organic Market, Rive Bistro, Rizzuto’s, Romanacci, The Whelk and Tutti’s. Each outlet can enter up to four categories, but can be declared victor in only two at the most.
Votes can be cast from March 3 to 31 via the chamber’s Great Westport Soup Contest page. Additional details about the participating soup makers and contest categories also can be found there.
Anyone who casts a ballot in the contest is entered into a drawing to win free soup from one of the winning restaurants, according to the chamber’s announcement.
“This is a fun way for our community to interact, support our local restaurants and markets and, best of all, get to eat lots of soup,” Matthew Mandell, the chamber’s executive director, said in the announcement.
In conjunction with the contest, “Westport Soup Month” will be officially proclaimed by First Selectwoman Jennifer Tooker at noon March 3 at Calise’s Food Market, 734 Post Road East.
