WESTPORT — The Post Road East property where the town’s major hotel stood for decades is now a demolition site.
The former Westport Inn, at 1595 Post Road East, has begun to fall to the wrecking ball, making way for a new, smaller hostelry that will be operated as a Delamar hotel, the luxury brand managed by the Greenwich Hospitality Group.
Plans for the new hotel, as modified by Planning and Zoning Commission in February, call for 86 rooms, down from the 117 rooms housed in the Westport Inn when it closed in 2021.
Work on the Delamar Westport is expected to be completed by the summer of 2024, the P&Z was told at the time.
Greenwich Hospitality also operates Delamar hotels in the Southport section of Fairfield, Greenwich, West Hartford and Traverse City, Mich.
An affiliate of the hotel management group, Longshore Hospitality LLC, in March was granted approval of a 30-year lease to operate the Inn at Longshore in Longshore Club Park. The pact calls for the tenant to make $8 million in upgrades to the waterfront inn.
