WESTPORT — A program offering discounts at a range of local merchants and food outlets for high school and college students, as well as educators, has been launched in a partnership between the Westport Downtown Association and Westport Youth Commission.

Discounts at 25 participating businesses are available to students who have a valid student ID or Schoology account, according to the announcement. Educators can participate by presenting active credentials.

“The Downtown Association is excited to launch another program to attract shoppers to Westport,” Maxxwell Crowley, the association’s president, said in a statement announcing the program.
“We couldn’t be prouder to partner with the Youth Commission in targeting students and educators with a program that highlights great values from our great merchants,” he added.
Jake Shufro, a Staples High School senior and Youth Commission member, had approached the merchant group with a proposal for the discount program.
“I didn’t want past experiences to shut the door as a win-win program like this needs to be in our town,” he said in the program announcement. “After working with the WDA, I knew they held the key to making this work.”
