
WESTPORT — Hip hop will be spotlighted July 23 as a 50th anniversary celebration of the groundbreaking music genre is hosted by the Westport Library.
“Legends Beats and Grooves” returns to the library, after a standout appearance during VersoFest 2023 several months ago, at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at the library, 20 Jesup Road.

Founded in 2013 by Gary of Gee’s Records and Jim Dennis, Legends Beats and Grooves highlights the artistry, history and fundamentals of hip hop DJ culture, according to the library’s announcement.
The program will include hip hop pioneers the Original Jazzy Jay, Cutmaster DJ Cool V, Doc. P. and DJ Slick Vic.
“Hip hop is one of the dominating phenomena in our global culture,” Gary of Gee’s Records and Legends Beats and Grooves, said in the library’s publicity release. “Gees Records is honored to partner with Verso Studios and their advanced tech to present some of the true innovators of hip hop for education, understanding and a real fun time.”
Disc jockey performances at the program will be led by DJ Cash Money of Philadelphia, joined by DJ Doodles and DJ Creative.
