
WESTPORT–Tony Award winner Laura Benanti will join forces with her mother, voice teacher and singer Linda Benanti, in a musical show about mother-daughter relationships at the Westport Country Playhouse on Feb. 28 at 8 p.m.
In the show, “Mothers Know Best,” the Benantis take “a touchingly humorous journey through songs and recollections,” according to the Playhouse.
Music director Billy Stritch will lead a three-piece band in the show which won a 2025, BroadwayWorld Cabaret Award for Best Duo Cabaret Show at 54 below in Manhattan’s Theater District.
The show features stories of the Benantis parenting styles – each is mother to two daughters – including tales of the days when mom Linda was Laura’s voice teacher growing up. Their repertoire of songs includes duets such as “One More Kiss” from “Follies” and “Que Será, Será” (with a comic twist), mixed with Laura’s Broadway showstoppers, “Vanilla Ice Cream” from “She Loves Me,” and “My Fair Lady in 15 Minutes or Less,” a compilation of musical highlights from “My Fair Lady.” It also includes Linda’s rendition of “The Man That Got Away,” drawing on her childhood admiration for Judy Garland.

On stage, IMDB says, “Ms. Benanti took Broadway by storm at the age of 18 as Maria in ‘The Sound of Music,’ and has subsequently starred in ten more Broadway shows.”
“Benanti earned rave reviews for her portrayal of a grieving widow in Netflix’s film ‘Worth,’ starring opposite Michael Keaton, Stanley Tucci, and Amy Ryan,” the website says. She appeared in the movie ‘Goodrich,’ opposite Michael Keaton in 2024 and last year in ‘Everything’s Going to be Great,’ with Bryan Cranston and Allison Janney.”
“Ms. Benanti’s iconic impression of Melania Trump on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is widely praised,” the website says.
Linda Benanti performed on Broadway in “Brigadoon,” the national tour of “The Odyssey” with Yul Brynner, off-Broadway as The Girl in “The Fantasticks,” and regionally as Guinevere in “Camelot,” Marian in “The Music Man,” Anne in “A Little Night Music,” Nanette in “No, No, Nanette,” Sarah in “Guys and Dolls,” and many others, the Playhouse said. After retiring from performing, she opened a vocal studio in Kinnelon, New Jersey.
