
WESTPORT–Guitarist Rale Micic will perform at the VFW Post 399 this Thursday, Aug. 27. The show is part of the Jazz at the Post series, which offers a new concert each Thursday, presented by the Jazz Society of Fairfield County.
Rale Micic on guitar will be joined by Greg Wall on tenor and soprano saxophones, Davis Witfield on piano, Vince DuPont on bass and EJ Strickland on drums.
The LA Times has written that “Micic is bringing an intriguing new perspective to the jazz guitar.”
Born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, guitarist and composer Rale Micic skillfully fuses culture with timeless jazz.
According to the release, Micic is a CTA Records recording artist and has been featured in numerous publications including Downbeat, JazzTimes, LA Times, San Diego Tribune and the Boston Globe. He has performed at prominent jazz clubs and music festivals in US and Europe including Catalina Jazz Club, Blues Alley, Village Vanguard, Scullers
Chef Derek Furino’s dinner this week is house salad, asparagus, garlic broccoli penne, chicken scarpariello, fish of the day and dessert, It will be served at 6:45 p.m. Dinner reservations are not required.
Musical sets begin at 7:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. The 7:30 set cover charge is $20 ($15 for students / veterans). The cover fee for the late set is $10.
The Jazz Society of Fairfield County offers “free or low-cost concerts by accomplished artists, outreach to under-served audiences, and educational and performance opportunities for student, amateur and emerging professional musicians,” its website says.
Since 2015, the organization has worked with Post 399 to bring the weekly jazz event to the post’s home on the Saugatuck River, featuring “celebrated jazz artists such as Ethan Iverson, Antonio Hart, David Kikoski, Harvie S and Joe Farnsworth as well as introducing our audience to the new generation of musicians moving the tradition forward,” the society’s website says.
