SOUTHPORT – A celebrated modern dance company will visit the Pequot Library in September, offering an outdoor performance and kicking off a new theatrical initiative.

The Paul Taylor Dance Company will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19th on the Pequot Library’s Great Lawn. The performance is a benefit to support the library’s arts programming, and will inaugurate Summer Stage, an annual tradition to showcase world-class performances that would not typically be available in Fairfield County.

The library notes that this will be the first performance of its kind by the Paul Taylor Dance Company between New York City and New Haven. The dancers will perform their Brandenburgs dance, a 30-minute work “known for its fluid geometry,” and its Company B dance, which is set to upbeat swing hits.

In addition to Summer Stage, the Pequot Library introduced a summer conservatory program this year. The Broadway Summer Conservatory Camp, a week-long experience giving young students a chance to develop musical theater skills alongside professionals, debuted in June.

The dress code for the event is cocktail or creative black tie. For more information, visit pequotlibrary.org.
