WESTPORT–Police arrested an Ohio man who is accused of flying across the country to a local business in pursuit of a woman he was allegedly stalking, police said.

Xinqi Liu, 31, reportedly lives in Oxford, Ohio, but was in Seattle when he learned that a Connecticut service business was owned by a relative of the victim, police said. Liu then traveled from Washington state to Connecticut and went to the business, police said.

Liu did not specifically ask to see the victim, but reportedly knew of her connection to the shop through family, police said. The business owner told police that Liu had a history of stalking her relative for two years, documented by other law enforcement agencies, Westport police said. A computer check showed an order of protection issued against him by a court in Ohio, police said.

Police contacted the alleged victim, who was not at the business and who told them that “any contact from Liu is unwelcome and that steps had been taken to prevent it,” police said in an announcement.

Liu was charged with stalking in the first degree because of a previous stalking conviction and criminal violation of a restraining order, both felonies. He is being held on $250,000 bond for an Oct. 5 appearance in Superior Court in Stamford.
