WESTPORT–Broadway legend Audra McDonald, celebrated for her unparalleled artistry as both a singer and an actor, is set to perform “An Evening with Audra McDonald” at the Westport Country Playhouse on Tuesday, May 19, at 7 pm. McDonald holds a record-breaking six Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards and an Emmy Award.
In 2015, President Barack Obama presented McDonald with the National Medal of Arts, and Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people. The Juilliard-trained soprano is known for her acclaimed Tony-winning roles in productions like Carousel, Master Class, Ragtime, A Raisin in the Sun, The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, and Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill.
Local audiences may also recognize McDonald from her recurring television roles on series such as The Good Fight (Paramount+), The Gilded Age (HBO), and Private Practice (ABC). She also appeared in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast and the Aretha Franklin biopic, Respect.
McDonald’s longtime collaborator and music director, Andy Einhorn, will accompany her on piano. Einhorn also served as music director for the award-winning revival of Gypsy, which starred McDonald.
The concert is 90 minutes with no intermission. Tickets are $150 and $200–reserve your seats here.
